Mary Achom
I believe that all people should have equal access to social services and opportunities and that these services should be evidence informed.
I am a social, behavioural and policy researcher with background training in communication, public health, research and public policy, monitoring and evaluation.
At Afrislum, I spend my time researching and analysing data, around issues affecting individuals and families in the poorest urban informal settlements in Uganda to inform programs and policies. I also spend reasonable time on fundraising, given that donor funds are the fuel that drives our organisation.
I came to Afrislum from a background of youth programming and academia. Over the last decade my work has spanned teaching, operations, development, systems, monitoring and evaluation, and research, with focus on sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, policy, gender, and poverty. When I’m not working with the incredible Afrislum family of staff, volunteers, and partners, I spend my time in academia, researching, teaching and students’ supervision. I also love spending time with my family.
