Step in her shoes project
Step in her shoes is a three-year post COVID-19 project targeting young mothers aged 15 – 24 years living in slum communities of Kagugube and Katanga in Kampala city, Uganda. The project was informed by the heightened cases of early pregnancies in urban informal settlements during the intense COVID-19 lockdown measures. The overall expected impact of this community-based project is contributing to the wellbeing of young mothers, their babies and preventing recurrent early pregnancies by providing relief items, SRHR/ECCD information and referral to services such as contraceptives, immunization.
Afrislum works with local leaders in the selected slum communities to identify vulnerable young mothers to be supported with household items, in addition to providing them with SRHR/ECCD information and referral for services in order to empower the mothers to deal with the challenges of early motherhood.
