Women Rise COVID-19 Slum Project

The Women rise COVID-19 slum project is a two-year project implemented by a consortium of partners including Makerere University School of Public Health, University of Waterloo, Uganda AIDS Commission, and Afrislum Uganda.

The Women Rise Slum project seeks to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on employment, economic status, and HIV risk and vulnerability among women living in urban informal settlements in two cities in Uganda (Kampala and Mbale) in order to inform inclusive, sustainable and equitable on-going and future solutions for COVID-19 recovery and future health emergencies.

Afrislum Uganda leads on all the community level components of the Women Rise Covid-19 Slum project in the slum communities of Kagugube and Zone 12, Mutungo in Kampala and Namakwekwe and Namataala in Mbale city.
